Let’s start with the bad news first: Container availability was at record lows at the end of December 2020 in Shanghai (basically across China).
With a minus of 50% compared to the same period in 2019, availability for 4ßDCS was only at 0.13 indicating a strong deficit. For 40HCs it was similar with a CAx value of 0.08 and a minus of 82%.
The good news? Although on a very small level, we can see the Container Availability Index (CAx) increasing slowly again for China. With CAx values of 0.34 for 20DCs and 0,37 for 40DCs in week 3, Shanghai seems slowly recovering from the equipment shortage.
