As a result of a $300m investment plan, APMT has significantly improved Salalah port’s infrastructure, both in terms of equipment and storage capabilities. The terminal now consists of six deep-water berths along a 2,200 m pier.

Upgrades included a yard extension of approximately 5 hectares. This means a 10% increase in container storage capacity, including upgraded cold storage capacity with an additional 2,000 reefer plugs. Road connectivity has also been improved.

The terminal is now equipped with 27 Ship-to-Shore Cranes, including ten new units of the world’s largest dimensions, which the terminal received in 2024. With a lift height of 58.00 m above the rail and an outreach of 75.00 m, the terminal is geared to receive vessels of all sizes.

In the coming months, Salalah will welcome HapagLloydAG‘s ‘Megamax’ ships sailing on the Asia – Europe ‘NE1’ service of the Gemini Cooperation network (Maersk: ‘AE2’).

Overall, the upgraded terminal’s design capacity increased from 4.5 Mteu to 6.5 Mteu. For many years, Salalah has planned to develop phase 3 of the terminal, however, it remains unclear whether this project will eventually materialize or not.
