The commercially idle Container Ship fleet remained stable at a very low level in the first half of August, dipping ever so slightly by just about 30 Kteu.
Alphaliner’s dedicated AXSInsights report shows 67 ships with a total capacity of 195,000 teu as commercially idle. This represented only 0.6% of the overall cellular fleet.
The liner shipping peak season, intermittent congestion at some key ports, and the ongoing diversions around Africa continue to put a strain on the supply of tonnage.
Even the massive number of vessel newbuildings that entered the market this year, adding up to more than 2 Mteu, have not yet fully re-balanced tonnage supply and demand.
