Just 18 months after becoming the world’s largest container shipping line, MSC has put a fleet capacity gap of one million teu between itself and the second-ranked Maersk.
This means that, on average, MSC’s lead over Maersk has grown by a whopping 12,800 teu every week since January 2022.
As per 1 July 2023, the gap between the two carriers stood at 985,500 teu since the latest delivery of a newbuilding for Maersk, the MAERSK CHARLESTON, once again narrowed it somewhat.
Alphaliner’s orderbook projections however show that MSC will further expand its lead at the top of the global carriers’ league over the next weeks and months.
