Maersk is the only carrier of the four largest mainline operators (MLOs) which managed to increase both market share and capacity in the intra-European service segment over the past twelve months.
Overall, intra-European service capacity grew by 17.8% or more than 170,000 teu compared to February 2023, as nowadays carriers are deploying more and larger ships in Europe.
Maersk again claimed the third spot among Europe’s largest mainline operators.
The Copenhagen-based carrier has increased its market share from 11.3% or 110,000 teu last year to 11.7% today, equal to 133,500 teu.
With 50 container ships deployed, Maersk now operates an additional seven ships, while at the same time it has increased its average vessel size by more than 100 teu, from 2,558 teu to 2,672 teu.
