Share prices for the leading container carriers have risen on average 400% from pre-COVID levels, significantly outperforming general stock market indices in Asia, Europe, and the US.
Gains recorded on an individual company basis between 1 January 2020 & 30 April 2021 range from 59% at the low end to a high of up 996%.
The industry’s performance far outstrips that of general markets. In the same period, the S&P 500 rose 29%, while the S&P Asia 50 Index, covering the Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan exchanges, rose 39%.
