Global cellular container ship fleet exceeds 6,600 vessels

The total number of fully cellular container ships has recently surpassed 6,600 units, marking a historic milestone, with a combined capacity of over 32.7 Mteu.

Meanwhile, MSCCargo ‘s fleet now accounts for 20.9% of the entire container ship fleet, having already exceeded 6.8 Mteu of total capacity and approaching the 7 Mteu mark.

MSC’s owned fleet also recently surpassed 4.1 Mteu, while its total vessel count currently stands at over 940 units. Almost 130 units, totaling about 2.2 Mteu, are logged in its orderbook.

CMACGM , currently ranked third, has expanded its fleet to over 700 units and already reached the milestone of 4 Mteu capacity a few months ago.

With a historically high orderbook, the global container ship fleet is expected to continue growing for the foreseeable future.
