Container freight rates retreated in 4Q21 from the all-time highs recorded in 3Q21 as the growth in cargo demand slowed down and supply chain congestion showed tentative signs of easing.
However, Drewry expects rates on major East-West lanes to increase again in January 2022, ahead of the CNY holidays.
The ongoing supply chain bottlenecks and a worrying new Omicron variant are likely to increase supply chain risks across the globe.
