Container Trade: End of the Decline?

(Olaf Merk) Just released global container trade volumes show that decline is bottoming out: volumes dropped by 8.7% over the first five months of 2020.

The global container trade decline over May 2020 was 11% compared to the previous year. The drop in April was 17%.

The worst affected world regions are North America and the Far East (-10%) over the first five months of 2020. The impacts are most moderate on the Sub Saharan Africa market (-3%).

The largest drops in May 2020 took place in Latin America and India & Middle East (-21%). The decrease in May in the Far East was only 5% in the same month
