MSC’s fleet approaching 6.8 Mteu of total capacity

As of mid-August, Geneva-based MSCCargo ‘s fleet stands at over 930 untis with a combined capacity of more than 6.76 MTeu. Over the past two months, MSC’s owned fleet, in particular, has exceeded the 4 MTeu mark.

This makes largest carrier in world hold a 20.7% market share of the existing Container Ship fleet. MSC also has more than 2.2 Mteu worth of capacity on order and maintains the third-highest orderbook-to-existing-fleet ratios among the Top 10 carriers.

At the same time, Maersk recently surpassed 4.6 Mteu of total capacity, while COSCOSHIPPING Group broke the 3.4 Mteu threshold. As we reported in July, @cmacgm became the third carrier in the world to operate a fleet with a capacity of more than 4 Mteu.

Overall, the global fully cellular Container Ship fleet is approaching 32.5 Mteu of capacity, with the current Top 10 carriers owning or chartering 84.6% of it.
