Global bunker prices rise in October amid Middle East tensions and supply constraints

MABUX chart showing global bunker prices for HSFO, VLSFO and MGO LS in October 2026

Global bunker prices continued their upward trend in October, driven by Middle East tensions, disrupted oil supplies and tight fuel availability across major bunkering hubs.

The MABUX 380 HSFO Index increased by USD 76.75 to USD 778.42/MT, while the VLSFO Index gained USD 70.81 to reach USD 913.07/MT, surpassing the USD 900 threshold. Meanwhile, the MGO LS Index edged up by USD 2.62 to USD 1,524.50/MT. Continued escalation of the U.S.–Iran conflict sustained pressure on crude oil and marine fuel prices.

The Global Scrubber Spread narrowed by USD 5.94 to USD 134.65, remaining above the USD 100 benchmark. Rotterdam’s spread increased to USD 68, while Singapore’s declined to USD 90, reducing scrubber-related savings in key bunkering hubs.

Regional market conditions remained mixed. Istanbul’s ECA Spread decreased to USD 70, reflecting moderate stabilization despite ongoing volatility.

European energy markets faced additional pressure. Gas storage reached 74.89% by October 29, while TTF prices surged to EUR 98.588/MWh. LNG bunker fuel at Sines climbed by USD 401 to USD 2,009/MT.

Looking ahead, MABUX expects bunker markets to remain firm but highly volatile in November, with geopolitical risks and supply constraints continuing to support prices.
