Boluda remains the clear leader among Spain’s top container carriers, operating more than 14,000 teu — far ahead of other domestic lines. New Alphaliner data highlights the country’s five largest operators and the services they run across the Mediterranean, West Africa, and the Canary Islands. The ranking reinforces how concentrated Spain’s national container shipping market remains.
Boluda remains Spain’s largest container carrier with an operated capacity of 14,091 teu.
Second-ranked Marguisa Shipping Lines follows by a large margin of almost 9,000 teu and operates four 250–3,650 teu ships on loops serving the West Mediterranean and West Africa, as well as intra-Africa. Its principal deep-sea service is the Med–West Africa ‘MAS’ loop, operated jointly with CMA CGM (‘EURAF 4’).
JSV Logistic claims the third spot among Spain’s largest operators. It operates a fleet of four container ships with a total capacity of 3,335 teu. Its main service is the Turkey–Spain–Canary Islands loop served by three 750–800 teu ships. Earlier this year, the carrier, which so far had entirely relied on the charter market, acquired its first owned tonnage.
Fourth-ranked NISA Maritima operates two 1,036 teu ships linking the Spanish mainland with the Canary Islands.
Alisios Shipping Lines completes the top five. The youngest Spanish operator launched its first liner service in 2016 between the Iberian Peninsula and the Canary Islands. Earlier this year, this Huelva–Canary service received a second ship, the 707 teu AQUARIUS, doubling the frequency to two sailings per week.
