This study concludes that the use of LNG-fueled ships results in releases of methane to the atmosphere in the form of methane slip from their engines, as well as fugitive methane emissions when LNG cargoes are unloaded from LNG tanker vessels. The specific conclusions from each campaign and the measurement approach used are provided below. The study also offers policy recommendations to European Union (EU) and IMO policymakers based on the results of the study.
