Data shows ship sales have rallied strongly since the COVID-19 peak, despite plummeting to their lowest level since the 2008 financial crisis in the months of April & May.
Alphaliner has recorded just over 165 open market transactions in 2020 to date – equivalent to 622,000 teu – with activity hitting a trough during April.
However, with an average of 22 ships sold per month in the third quarter, activity has now surged back to pre-COVID-19 levels, and on a teu basis the 275 million teu sold during the third quarter exceeded the 234 million teu recorded in the first quarter.
