Maritime commerce on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River is critical to the economies of the United States and Canada. This study seeks to measure and evaluate commerce and present a description of its economic impacts. The deep-draft inland navigation system is the longest in the world, extending 3,700 kilometers (2,300 miles) into the North American heartland.
